From schoolwork to showpieces: How Teneo School helped Ankia become a young prop designer

For Grade 12 learner Ankia Weich, creativity isn’t just a hobby — it’s a world she’s been building since childhood. And with Teneo’s flexible online schooling, she finally has the time, space, and support to grow that passion into something extraordinary.

Over her three years at Teneo, Ankia discovered teachers who truly see her. Her art teacher, Ms. Gibbs, encouraged her to experiment, trust her talent and find joy in the creative process. With supportive classmates in her Art group and teachers who respond with extra help, tips and even one-on-one sessions, she’s built a community that motivates her every day. Online learning also gives her room to refine her craft. With recorded lessons she can rewatch while taking notes, she stays on track academically while exploring her creativity — from painting and drawing to cosplay, prop-making and full costume builds. Now, as she prepares for matric, she’s working toward her biggest dream yet: entering a professional cosplay competition after school and aiming to represent South Africa internationally. For her, every prop tells a story and she’s only getting started.
