Chasing World Championship cycling and academic success at Teneo School: The Kanis brothers’ journey

For the Kanis family, flexibility was the key to unlocking both academic success and high-performance sport. With Joshua in Grade 11 and Michael in Grade 9, Teneo School provides a learning environment that supports their demanding cycling schedules without compromising their education.

Their father, Johannes, shares how traditional schooling made it difficult to balance racing, travel, and class time. With Teneo, the boys can learn from anywhere, keep up with lessons on the go, and stay fully engaged with their teachers even while competing across South Africa and internationally.

Joshua has represented South Africa at African Champs and World Champs, while Michael continues to climb the national rankings. Through Teneo’s flexible structure, supportive teachers, and motivating leaderboard system, both boys can train, travel, and still excel academically.

The Kanis family also values how Teneo supports different learning needs. Technology tools and structured systems have been especially helpful for Joshua, who is dyslexic, giving him the confidence and support to perform at his best.

With Teneo School, the Kanis brothers are able to chase big sporting dreams while staying on track for academic success — a balance that keeps this cycling-driven family moving forward together.
